SPF, which is an acronym for Sender Policy Framework, is an e-mail safety system, that is employed to verify if an email message is sent by an authorized server. Employing SPF protection for a given domain name will stop the faking of emails created with the domain. In simple words: activating this function for a domain generates a special record in the Domain Name System (DNS) which includes the IP of the servers which are allowed to send emails from mail boxes under the domain. Once this record propagates globally, it exists on all of the DNS servers that direct the Internet traffic. Whenever a new email message is sent, the initial DNS server it uses verifies if it comes from an official server. If it does, it's sent to the destination address, yet when it doesn't come from a server indexed in the SPF record for the domain, it is discarded. In this way nobody will be able to mask an email address and make it look as if you are distributing spam messages. This approach is also called email spoofing.

SPF Protection in Hosting

If you host your domain names in a hosting account on our end and we handle the emails for them, you'll be able to activate SPF protection for any of them with several clicks in your Hepsia Control Panel. The service can be found in its own section where you will be able to view which domain names are currently protected. For the ones that are not, you will be able to enable the SPF protection option and set up a number of things during the process - the hostnames of the mail servers that are allowed to send messages from your e-mails, the IPv4 and IPv6 addresses of the servers, and to create a rule that emails can be sent only when your domain names include our MX records. The aforementioned choice is the most secure one, but it can be used in the event that we take care of the e-mails for your domains and you are not using a different e-mail provider. The new records will be activated within 1 day and nobody will be able to fake the FROM field in an email by using your addresses.

SPF Protection in Semi-dedicated Hosting

When you have a semi-dedicated server account from us, you are able to secure your email addresses by enabling the SPF security service for any domain in the account with only a couple of mouse-clicks. This can be done from the Emails section of the Hepsia Control Panel that is included with the semi-dedicated accounts and even if you lack previous experience with these kinds of matters, you will not have any kind of difficulties to activate the protection. All that you'll have to do will be to find a domain name from a drop-down menu and then type the mail server hostname and IPv4 or IPv6 address. The moment the new record propagates, messages from your e-mail addresses will be delivered worldwide only if they're sent from that particular server. In case your emails are handled by us and not by some third-party provider, you will also be able to benefit from an option for emails to be mailed only if the domain name includes our MX records and this is the safest option. In case you have any questions about thisfeature, you will be able to get in touch with our tech support team 24/7.
